“It was fun and made a huge difference in just a few minutes!”

“Our initial consultation with Jordan was both informative and productive! He facilitated a deep but low-pressure discussion about what we want our landscaping to look and feel like. AND we did a bit of tidying of weeds while we talked… It was fun and made a huge difference in just a few minutes! Can’t wait to continue working with Jordan on the full project :)”

N & J, new homeowners in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia

Before and after design render: a plain front lawn in West Mount Airy, then the same lawn reimagined with a Japanese maple, a bench, and beds of coneflower, hydrangea, and salvia

Conceptual design rendering for a front yard in West Mount Airy. The homeowner wants to reduce the existing lawn, but isn’t ready to invest in a complete landscape overhaul. I offered them a phased approach, which can be executed by themselves, by me, or by any contractor of their choice: 1) Plant a new tree, 2) Plant native shrubs and perennials along the front slope, 3) Add a bench to the flat upper lawn area to feel out how that works as more of a hangout space, 4) Revisit the design concept, rinse, and repeat. Coaching can support any and all of these phases.

Landscape Coaching

I provide expert attention on you and your yard — not a design contract or a sales visit. I’ll walk the property with you, ask questions you haven’t thought to ask, and help you gain a new perspective on your space.

Afterward, you can expect to feel clearer about what to do first, what can wait, and what’s worth paying someone else to do. You don’t always need to make a big investment hiring someone to do everything — sometimes you just need help figuring out what to do next.

I can also provide support on a project that’s already underway, whether it’s facilitating communication with your landscape contractor, helping you iron out design ideas, or something else. Have more questions? Reach out and let’s chat!

Gardening & Co-Gardening

Hands-on time in your yard, with or without your participation: pruning, planting, bed prep, seasonal cleanup, or other projects. When we work together, you’ll gain extra insights, skills, and motivation.

Landscape Design & Other Services

I’m open to design, planning, maintenance, or other support customized to your unique needs. If your project calls for detailed drawings, planting plans, or more extensive design work, that can be scoped and priced separately. If your needs are outside my scope, I’m happy to get you as far as we can go in your process, then help you connect and communicate with trusted local professionals to find the right team for the job. I can also support project management as you navigate working with other contractors, designers, and landscapers. Reach out and let’s brainstorm.

Sometimes the change you need isn’t outside, it’s within yourself: a perspective shift, a mindset recalibration, a recentering of body and spirit. As a certified yoga teacher, seasoned environmental educator, and experienced meditation guide, I’m experimenting with offering “Landscape Well-being” consultations — a collaborative and personalized approach to cultivating peace of mind, body, and/or spirit in relationship with outdoor space. This can be its own dedicated service, or folded in with other services. If this piques your interest, reach out and let’s discuss what you need to grow!

“His suggestion for my backyard saves me a lot of money and time.”

“Working with Jordan was a pleasure from both a financial and personal perspective. His experience gave me ideas I would not have thought of myself. In fact, his suggestion for my backyard saves me a lot of money and time. The questions he asked helped me really think about what I needed to improve in the space and how to go about it. I strongly recommend a session with Jordan if you have landscape needs.”

FAQs

What is landscape coaching?

+

Landscape coaching is a focused, no-pressure consultation where a licensed landscape architect walks your property with you and helps you understand it. Instead of handing you a design contract, I help you see what you already have, name what’s bothering you, and decide what to do first. Most Philadelphia homeowners leave a one-hour session with a clear list of next steps they can act on themselves or take to a contractor. Clients often find it useful to schedule recurring sessions: monthly, seasonally, even weekly during peak seasons or special projects. But there’s no commitment required, and a single session alone can be transformative.

How is landscape coaching different from landscape architecture or landscaping?

+

A landscape architect draws and documents a full design; a landscaper installs and maintains plants and hardscape. Landscape coaching focuses on YOU and YOUR RELATIONSHIP with your space, including its design and maintenance. I aim to clarify what you want, what your yard wants, and how to realistically make you both happy. Being a registered professional landscape architect in Pennsylvania, I’m equipped to provide expert guidance on jobs of any size, in any setting.

What areas do you serve?

+

I’m based in West Mount Airy and typically include a 20-minute driving radius in my “no travel fee” zone. Outside that radius? Let’s discuss. I can offer insights on any type of property: urban rowhouse yards, corner lots, shaded side gardens, estate grounds… even public or commercial spaces including parks, playgrounds, and plazas.

What should I prepare before a session?

+

Nothing formal. It helps to have any photos, plot plans, or contractor quotes on hand, plus a rough sense of your budget and timeline. Bring the questions that nag you when you look out the window — those are the best place to start.
